If you (like me) have got a noisy Asus EEEPC, the following should help.
I noticed that when the brightness on my LCD is anything above the minimum level, there is a constant whine coming from the screen which gets annoying when you are trying to work from a quite location.
As a last resort, I upgraded the BIOS by downloading the latest firmware available directly from the ASUS website. The pre-installed BIOS upgrade utility was unable to pick the latest bios automatically. So downloaded the firmware and ran the update utility.
Works a treat. Now I have a totally silent ASUS PC :-)
